Execution of a Political Prisoner in Ahvaz Prison

Breathing in Confinement: On the morning of Tuesday, November 29, 2023, the death sentence of a political prisoner named Hani Alboshabazi from Fallahiye (Shadegan), was carried out in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, Hani had been sentenced to death four years ago on charges of waging war against God.
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” quoting ILNA, on the morning of Tuesday, November 29, the death sentence of a prisoner from Khuzestan, who had been detained on charges of “murder” of two security forces, was carried out in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz. Saleh Motahari, the legal deputy of the commander of the police in Khuzestan province, said to this state media that the death sentence of this prisoner was executed after confirmation in the Supreme Court.
According to informed sources and Arab human rights activists, the executed prisoner has been identified as Hani Alboshabazi from Shadegan, who had been arrested during the nationwide protests in November 2019, and was sentenced to death in absolute secrecy.
According to Hengaw Human Rights Organization, Hani Shahbazi was arrested on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, during clashes with government forces in the city of Fallahiye (Shadegan). Later, he was sentenced to death by the Abadan Revolutionary Court on charges of waging war against God and killing Yaser Sepidro, a member of the law enforcement, and Mohammad Ali Kazemi, a member of the Basij.
Also, according to reports published on social media, Hani Shahbazi had been shot by security forces in Shadegan in December 2019. His name had even been published as one of the killed participants of the November 2019 protests.
There are no detailed information about his trial and the court proceedings on investigations and addressing the charges of this political prisoner. And according to the informed sources, he had been tortured for forced confessions.
The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, condemning the execution of political prisoners in recent days, calls on the United Nations and the UN Human Rights Commission to take an urgent action to prevent the increasing executions of prisoners in the Islamic Republic. The authorities of the Islamic Republic must be held accountable for their crimes.
According to the statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (Breathing in Confinement), between October 20 and November 20, 2023, at least 112 prisoners have been executed.
