Breathing in Confinement: A prisoner sentenced to death for murder was executed on Sunday, January 15, 2022, in Khorramabad Central Prison.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner sentenced to death for murder was executed on Sunday, January 15, 2022, in Khorramabad Central Prison. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as a 30-year-old man named Moslem Aghamirzaei, the son of Houshang.
Muslim Aghamirzaei had been accused of shooting his friend to death in a fight. “It took only a year and a few months from the time of his arrest until his execution,” said an informed source. “Muslim did not have a lawyer and was not given the opportunity to obtain the consent of the victim’s family. His case was referred to Sentence Implementation Unit immediately, and on January 15, his sentence was carried out in Khorramabad Central Prison,” the source continued.
The rise in the number of executions in Iranian prisons and the remarks of the head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Ejei, about the execution of the death sentences issued in old cases by the end of the year, have raised concerns about the lives of prisoners on death row. The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran calls on the UN Human Rights Council and UN rapporteurs to take immediate and decisive action to end the executions in Iran.
