Breathing in Confinement –  On November 17, a prisoner accused of murder was executed in Mashhad prison.

According to Khorasan, on Sunday, November 17, 2019, a death penalty was implemented in Mashhad prison. According to the report, the case was launched after some citizens called the police in Mashhad reporting the discovery of a baby girl’s body on the outskirts of Mashhad-Kalat Road farmlands. Upon receiving the news, to investigate the case, Mashhad Khalghabad Police Officers immediately went to the place where the child’s body was found and transferred to the forensic medicine department.

Initial investigations revealed that the child had been murdered after being hit by a hard object to the head. The forensics also confirmed that the child had been sexually abused.

The day after the incident, on January 2, 2011, an 18-year-old man went to the Baghestan Police Station in Ferdows County, confessing to killing a child. After confirming his statement, the defendant was transferred to Mashhad to be interrogated.

Upon completion of the interrogation and finalizing the investigation, the indictment was issued and the case was referred to Branch No. 3 of Criminal court 1 in Khorasan Razavi. Where the Judges considering the content of the case, confessions of the defendant and forensics’ report, sentenced the 18-year-old man to be flogged and executed.

The case was referred to the Supreme Court after the defendant’s lawyer objected to the verdict. Where reviewing the case in Branch 28 of the High Court, the judges upheld the Criminal Court verdict. Finally, after 8 years of being in prison, the defendant was taken to the Gallows and executed.
