Breathing in Confinement: More than 60 days after the arrest of 18-year-old Omid Omran in Mashhad, the judicial authorities refuse to release him, and leave him in an uncertain state in temporary detention in Vakil Abad prison in Mashhad.

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, despite spending 60 days in temporary detention, Omid Omran, one of the detainees of the national uprising in Mashhad, is still being held in an uncertain state in temporary detention in Vakil Abad prison in Mashhad.

Dariush Omran, Omid’s father, in an interview with Breathing in Confinement said: “My son was arrested about two months ago by the IRGC intelligence unit on his way back from school, and was subjected to the most severe torture in solitary confinement for 20 days to make him confess against himself.”

“After two months, my son is still in temporary detention which is being extended every month. So far, we have introduced three lawyers none of whom approved by the judiciary,” Dariush Omran continued.

Mr. Omran added: “After 20 days of solitary confinement, Omid was first transferred to the quarantine and then to Ward 1 of Vakil Abad Prison in Mashhad. He is only allowed to contact his grandmother.”

Despite the transfer of Omid Omran to the general ward of Vakil Abad prison, he is denied the right to appoint his lawyer and this has increased the concerns about issuing a heavy sentence for this 18-year-old prisoner.
