Execution of three prisoners in Urmia Prison

Breathing in Confinement: This morning, Monday, August 2, three prisoners sentenced to death for “drug offences,” were executed in Urmia Prison.

The three prisoners who were executed in Urmia Central Prison, have been identified as Sepehr Abbasnejad, son of Bahman, Eskandar Zare, son of Ibrahim, and Hamzeh Rezaei, son of Reza.

 

Yesterday, Breathing in Confinement reported their transfer to solitary confinement for execution.

So far, the execution of these three prisoners has not been announced by the official authorities or the state media.

According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, after the presidential election the number of executions has significantly increased. Over the first 4 months of the Solar Hijri year (from March 20 to July 20, 2021), at least 77 prisoners were executed in various prisons in Iran.
