Breathing in Confinement – Ramin Hossein Panahi, Kurdish political prisoner was executed today.
According to the reports obtained by Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran (PRLI), Ramin Hossein Panahi, Kurdish political prisoner was executed this morning in Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj.
The prison authorities have informed his brother of his execution in a phone call.
One of the members of Hossein Panahi family told PRLI’s reporter that the authorities are refusing to return Ramin’s corpse to his family.
On the other hand, there is no information about Zaniar and Loghman Moradi, two Kurdish political prisoners who had been taken to the quarantine to be executed today.
Ramin Hossein Panahi had been on hunger strike since August 27th and kept in solitary confinement while being handcuffed and shackled.
Ramin Hossein Panahi was sentenced to death by branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj on January 16, 2018. He was charged with acting against national security through taking up arms (Baghy). The sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court in April and sent to the executive branch.
Hossein Ahmadi Niaz, his lawyer had told in June that his appeal had been rejected.
Ramin Hossein Panahi was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj on August 13, 2018. He was told that he was going to receive medical treatment in this prison.
He had been shot, injured and arrested by the IRGC agents on June 22, 2017 and then kept under torture in solitary confinement for 200 days.
Yesterday, two special rapporteurs of United Nations and Amnesty International had called on the Iranian authorities to halt the execution of these 3 prisoners.
Zaniar and Loghman Moradi, two Kurdish political prisoners were called for a “brief meeting with the head of the prison” on Wednesday, September 5th but were taken to the quarantine instead.
They are on hunger strike ever since.
