To serve her sentence, Nazanin Mohammadnejad was transferred to Evin Prison

Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, January 1, 2022, Nazanin Mohammadnejad, a student at Allameh Tabatabai University and a former student activist at the University of Tehran, was transferred to Evin Prison to spend her 3 year and 4 month-sentence.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Saturday, January 1, 2022, Nazanin Mohammadnejad was transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence. Ms. Mohammadnejad is a bachelor’s degree student in Russian language at Allameh Tabatabai University.

 

On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Nazanin Mohammadnejad was arrested by security agents at her home in Tehran and transferred to Ward 2A of Evin Prison- the IRGC’s intelligence detention center. During her arrest, security agents confiscated some of Ms. Mohammadnejad’s personal belongings, including her cell phone, laptop, and books. After spending nearly two months in detention, she was temporarily released on February 2, 2021, on bail of 1 billion and 200 million Tomans, awaiting the trial.

 

The trial of this student activist was held in August 2021 in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari who issued a sentence of 3 years and 4 months in prison for Ms. Mohammadnejad on charges of “participation in the management of an illegal group and propaganda activities against the regime.”

 

Nazanin Mohammadnejad holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Tehran and is active in the field of women’s, workers ‘and students’ rights, and has published some articles in student journals.
