Breathing in Confinement: On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at least seven protests were held by various groups of people, including retirees and nurses.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, nurses and staff of Apadana Hospital in Ahvaz held a protest over delayed salaries and the uncertainty faced by patients and their companions.
Contract workers of the Third-Party Departments of Gachsaran Oil and Gas Exploitation Company protested and marched in response to officials’ lack of action on their job-related issues and their demand for permanent employment status. Workers chanted: “Our message to the government: Shame on you, shame on you.”
Steel retirees in Isfahan held a protest over their poor living conditions. They demanded the correction of pension parity, supplementary insurance. Some of their chants included: “They’ve used Islam as a tool and worn the people out,” “Only by showing up in the streets can we claim our rights,” “Insufficient wages! Silence changes nothing,” and “When will retirees’ problems be solved?”
Social security retirees from Shush, Karkheh, and Haft Tappeh, as well as retirees from Ahvaz, Tehran, and Kermanshah, protested low pensions, discrimination, poor living conditions, poverty, inflation, and high prices. They demanded increased pensions, welfare services, and free healthcare. Among their chants were: “High taxes, terrible services,” “Power cuts are pushing us back to the Stone Age,” “Incompetent officials! Don’t you know that people’s food depends on electricity?” “Electricity, gas, and livelihood have been stolen from the people,” “You didn’t implement wage parity, you stole the budget,” “Protest and assembly are our undeniable rights,” “Imprisoned teachers must be freed,” “Imprisoned workers must be freed,” “We won’t live under oppression, we’ll give our lives for freedom,” “Shame on this servitude, shame on this life,” and “The appointed government is full of lies.”
