Breathing in Confinement: On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at least 11 protest rallies and marches were held; concurrently, the strike of thousands of workers in the oil, petrochemical and power plant industries also spread to 123 contracting companies.
According to the statistics center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran “Breathing in Confinement”, on Sunday, July 7, 2024, steel industry retirees held a protest rally and march in the cities of Ahvaz, Isfahan, Damghan, Ghaemshahr and Tehran. The pensioners of steel industries protested against the poor living conditions and demanded equalization of their salaries.
Additionally, retirees from social security organization, medical services, retired teachers in Kermanshah, Karkheh, Hafttappeh, and social security retirees and teachers in Tehran held a rally in front of the social security building in their cities to protest against the poor living conditions, poverty, high prices, and inflation. The pensioners in Tehran chanted the slogan of oppression against women is twice. They condemned the death sentence for labor activist Sharifa Mohammadi and demanded her release.
Retirees in Kermanshah chanted: “The imprisoned teacher should be freed. The imprisoned worker should be freed. Both the parliament and the government are lying to the nation.”
The retirees in Shush also chanted: Neither the parliament nor the government cares about the nation, let go of the headscarf, think of us, people’s backs are broken under the burden of inflation.
On the same day, ABFA (water company) contractor workers went on strike and gathered in Rudbar Gilan for the twelfth day to protest against the non-payment of their 8-month arrears.
The he local workers laid off from Arghvan Gostar Ilam company also gathered in protest against their dismissal and unemployment and demanded to return to work.
On the 18th day of strikes, thousands of contractor workers in the oil, petrochemical and power plant industries in more than 123 companies demanded the removal of contractors from oil and gas and petrochemical companies, the implementation of 14 days of work and 14 days off, an increase in wages and the payment of salaries like other Oil company employees as well as the payment of job benefits.
