A group hunger strike in the Evin and Great Tehran prisons

Breathing in Confinement -72 Dervish inmates in Evin and Great Tehran prisons, have been on medication and hunger strike since 7 days ago, protesting against the increased security pressures.

According to “Breathing in Confinement”- the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, quoting Dervish prisoners, since November 4, 2019, 68 Dervish inmates in Great Tehran Prison as well as 3 Dervish women in Evin prison have gone on hunger strike in protest against increased pressures and security restrictions. They have announced that they will continue their strike until their demands are met.

Inmate Dervishes have cited the reason for their hunger strike as increased pressures, security restrictions, closure of their Hussainiyas and banning their gatherings.

These inmates are on the 7th day of their hunger strike while most of them after being beaten by the security forces at the time of detention on Golestan 7th in February 2017 are still being kept in the inhumane situations, deprived of treatment and medical care.
