A new case in prison; The sentence of one year imprisonment for Nasser Hemmati

Breathing in Confinement: Nasser Hemmati, a psychologist doctor, writer and poet from Abdanan, was sentenced to one year in prison by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan for a new case opened against him while in prison. On Tuesday, August 7, Nasser Hemmati who had been summoned to Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Isfahan, was arrested and transferred to Dastgerd Prison, to serve his two-year sentence for his previous case.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Nasser Hemmati, a psychologist doctor, writer and poet from Abdanan, was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Isfahan to one year in prison on a new charge of “propaganda against the regime”. He had previously been sentenced to two years in prison for his civil activities, and on August 10, 2021, to serve his sentence, he was arrested and transferred to Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

 

On Monday, September 20, a hearing on Mr. Hemmati’s new case was held in Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan. The next court hearing was scheduled to be held on October 9.

 

It needs to be mentioned that Mr. Hemmati was arrested by security forces in Isfahan on Thursday, December 26, 2019, and was temporarily released on bail after a week in detention.

 

On June 8, Mr. Hemmati was notified of the charges of “propaganda against the regime” as well as “offending the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

 

He was later sentenced by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan to one year in prison on charge of “propaganda against the regime” as well as two years in prison on charge of “offending the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

 

Based on the verdict. and considering the Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code (aggregation of sentences for multiple offences), the sentence of two years in prison is applicable to him.
