Breathing in Confinement: Afshar Moheb, a civil activist from Ardabil province, has been on a hunger strike in Ardabil prison since Sunday, January 2, 2022, in protest of the case investigator’s refusal to grant him a temporary release on bail.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the civil activist Afshar Moheb, has been on a hunger strike since Sunday, January 2, 2022, in protest of the case investigator’s refusal to release him on bail. According to a report received by Breathing in Confinement, Mr. Moheb announcing his hunger strike via a phone call said: “If my release on bail be rejected, I will go on a hunger and thirst strike in the coming days.”

 

On Wednesday, December 22, 2021, after being summoned to Branch 3 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Ardabil, Mr. Moheb was charged with “propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran in support of the opposition groups and organizations”. He was later transferred to Ardabil Central Prison.

 

Afshar Moheb was arrested by security forces on January 23, 2021, while leaving his workplace and was released from the Ardabil Intelligence Office a few hours later.
