Breathing in Confinement – Women political prisoners in Evin Prison announced in a statement that they would turn Yalda’s night into a commemoration of the martyrs of the November uprising.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, honoring the protesters who were killed in the uprisings, women political prisoners at Evin prison are turning Yalda into a night to commemorate the martyrs.

The following is a transcript of the statement, a copy of which is obtained by “Breathing in Confinement”:

Dear Iranian people!

Bullets, batons, jails and in short, repression has always been the government’s response to the most peaceful voice of protest.

In November, once again, the uprising against poverty and systematic corruption was responded in the most violent way with massive killings, thousands of arrests and shouting down the Internet across the country. To honor the martyrs’ blood we, the political women of Evin Prison, will turn the ancient Yalda night into a commemoration for the martyrs.

We gather in a ceremony this night to honor our martyrs. Starting with a sitting-down strike in the ward’s office, we will commemorate the martyrs by singing anthems alongside our fellow prisoner.

We believe that just as Yalda which is the time of victory for the day overnight and light over darkness, the darkest night of our history also will soon come to an end with the brightness of people’s victory and the defeat of exploitation and dictatorship.
