Rahela Ahmadi’s mother passed away, while she was not granted a leave for the last visit

Breathing in Confinement: Despite the deteriorating condition of the mother of Raheleh Ahmadi, a civil activist imprisoned in Evin Prison, judicial authorities refused to grant a leave to her and her daughter, Saba Kordafshari for the last visit. Raheleh Ahmadi, the mother of Saba Kordafshari, a civil and anti-compulsory Hijab activist, has been serving her 31-month sentence in Evin Prison since February 15, 2020.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Raheleh Ahmadi’s mother died yesterday, without being given the opportunity to visit her daughter and granddaughter for the last time. Despite her mother’s deteriorating condition, judicial authorities refused to grant a leave to Rahela Ahmadi. Even so far, neither Raheleh Ahmadi nor her daughter Saba Kordafshari have been granted a leave to attend the funeral.

 

Whereas, since these two political prisoners had previously been sent on leave, there was no administrative difficulties in granting them a leave. And the prosecutor could simply issue an order for the family to have a final visit.

 

On Saturday, February 15, 2020, after appearing in Branch 3 of the Evin Court, Raheleh Ahmadi, the mother of Saba Kordafshari, was transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence. Ms. Ahmadi was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to 4 years and 2 months in prison, 3 years and 6 months of which, according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code will be enforceable. Ms. Ahmadi’s sentence was later reduced to 31 months in prison as she did not appeal it.

 

Saba Kordafshari was arrested by security forces in June 2019, and in September of the same year, was sentenced to 24 years in prison. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code and by applying the circular on reducing the length of prison sentences, 7 years and six months of her sentence will be enforceable.
