Rashid Naserzadeh’s case is referred to the Court of Appeals

Breathing in Confinement: On May 31, 2020, to be retried, the case of Rashid Naserzadeh, an environmental activist from the County of Oshnavieh, was referred to the Court of Appeal. He had previously been sentenced to six years in prison on charges of conspiracy, gathering, and collusion against the national security, as well as propaganda against the regime.
According to Kurdistan Center for Democracy and Human Rights, the case of Rashid Naserzadeh, an environmental activist, was referred to the Court of Appeals. In April 2020, by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court in Oshnavieh, Mr. Naserzadeh had been sentenced to a total of six years in prison on charges of “conspiracy and collusion to commit a crime against the national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”
According to the report, the environmental activist Rashid Naserzadeh had been arrested by the security forces on December 3, 2019. He was returning from Iraqi Kurdistan when arrested on Piranshahr-Oshnavieh road. In order to be interrogated, Rashid was transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Urmia . Later in January 16, 2020, after completion of his interrogations, he was temporarily released on a bail amount of 200 million Tomans.
This environmental activist had been tried in Branch 101 of the Oshnavieh Criminal Court in February 2019 and had received the verdict on Thursday, March 26, 2020, .
Pursuant to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, if the sentence is upheld by the Court of Appeals, 5 years of the sentence (on charges of conspiracy) will be enforceable
