Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, February 12, 2022, Roozbeh Piri, an activist living in Tabriz, was arrested by security forces at his father’s house without being presented an arrest warrant.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Saturday, February 12, Roozbeh Piri, an activist living in Tabriz, was arrested by security forces at his father’s house without being presented an arrest warrant.

 

Yashar Piri, Roozbeh’s brother, announced on his Instagram page that the Court of Appeals has reduced his brother’s 6-year prison sentence to 3 years and 8 months, and that his detention might be because of finalization of his verdict.

 

Mr. Piri had been sentenced to a total of six years in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime as well as membership in opposition groups. In recent days, in a letter from the East Azarbaijan Province Court of Appeals, Mr. Piri’s lawyer, Asghar Mohammadi, was informed that the sentence had been reduced to three years and eight months in prison.

 

Mr. Piri had been arrested by the security forces in Tabriz on September 9, 2021, and was released from Tabriz Central Prison a bail of 300 million Tomans on September 29, awaiting the court’s decision.
