Breathing in Confinement: On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Hossein Ronaghi, a blogger and civil activist, was arrested.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Hossein Ronaghi, a civil activist and blogger, was arrested on Wednesday, February 23.
Hassan Ronaghi, Hossein’s brother, announced the arrest of his brother on his personal page. He wrote: “We have not heard from my brother since the morning when he left home.” He added: “According to some friends, he had received several calls from an anonymous organization number. Today, in a file that was deleted later, he asked me to announce the news if we didn’t hear from him.
An hour after Mr. Ronaghi was arrested, security agents entered his home and confiscated all of his communications devices, including his laptop as well as his manuscripts.
No information is available on the whereabouts of Hossein Ronaghi, or the organization which has arrested him. Mr. Ronaghi had developed kidney disease during his previous detention.
The human rights activist and blogger Hossein Ronaghi had previously been arrested on December 13, 2009.
On October 5, 2010, after spending 10 months in Ward 2-A of Evin Prison, he was sentenced by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court to 15 years in prison on charges of “membership in the Iran Proxy Network, insulting the Supreme Leader and insulting the President.”
The verdict was upheld by Branch 54 of the Court of Appeals, and Hossein Ronaghi was later transferred to Ward 350 of Evin Prison.
Finally, he was released from prison in May 2016.
