Breathing in Confinement: Yesterday, Sunday, August 1, 2021, a group of people from Ahvaz living in Mashhad along with a number of activists gathered in Mellat Park in Mashhad to support the uprisings in Khuzestan. The rally was dealt with violence by police and security forces, and a number of protesters, including Fatemeh Sepehri and Javad Lael Mohammadi were arrested.

 

On Sunday, August 1, 2021, a group of people from Mashhad, along with a number of civil activists, gathered in Mellat Park in Mashhad, to support the uprisings in Khuzestan and to protest the critical situation in the country.

 

Protesters chanted slogans in support of the people of Khuzestan and demanded the release of political prisoners. They however, were violently treated by police and security forces and two civil activists, Ms. Fatemeh Sepehri and Mr. Javad Lael Mohammadi as well as a number of other protesters were arrested. Breathing in Confinement is investigating to identify the other detainees.

 

After the violent intervention of the security forces, the protesting citizens gathered in another park and asked for the people’s support. They chanted “Political prisoner must be released.”

 

It should be mentioned that the protests of the people in Khuzestan against the water crisis began on Thursday, July 15, 2021 and in just one week spread to 11 other provinces of the country, details of which was reported by “Breathing in Confinement” on a daily basis.
