At least 6 teachers arrested in a rally in Bushehr

Breathing in Confinement: On Sunday, May 1, 2022, following the Coordinating Council of Teachers’ Unions’ call for nationwide rallies, the employed and retired teachers in various cities in Iran gathered in front of the cities’ Education Department Buildings. The teachers in Bushehr gathered in a high security atmosphere in the presence of law enforcement forces. Security forces beat and arrested a number of teachers.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Sunday, May 1, 2022, following the teachers’ protest rally in Bushehr, security forces arrested and beat a number of them. As per the reports, at least six teachers were arrested. Hamid Khojasteh, Mohsen Omrani, Mahmoud Malaki, Fereydoun Shafiei, Ardeshir Sayadi are the arrested teachers in Bushehr.
On Sunday, May 1, teachers gathered in various cities. The teachers’ main demands have been mentioned in their final statement:
- The implementation of the Civil Service Management Law, and equalization of pensions
- Job security and permanent employment of teachers with temporary contracts
- Stop the privatization of education, and allocation of sufficient budget for schools
- Return of looted assets of Teachers’ Reserve Fund
- Reemployment of fired teachers, the release of detained union activists, and the halt of filing spurious cases against teachers and summoning them
- Payment of the bonuses of retired teachers with no delay
It should be mentioned that on April 30, five members of the Tehran Teachers’ Union were arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location.
