Breathing in Confinement: Following the release of videos showing the torture of prisoners in Evin, after its CCTV cameras were hacked, Mohammad Mehdi Haj Mohammadi, the chief of the Prisons Organization, confirmed the validity of the videos and admitted the existence of torture in Evin Prison.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, following the widespread release of videos of torturing and beatings the prisoners by security agents in Evin Prison, Mohammad Mehdi Haj Mohammadi, head of the Prisons Organization, admitted the existence of torture in Evin. He wrote in a tweet:

“Regarding the pictures of Evin prison; accepting the responsibility for these unacceptable behaviors and promising to prevent such tragic events from reoccurring, and to deal seriously with wrongdoers; I apologize to God Almighty, our dear Supreme Leader, our great nation and the noble prison guards, whose efforts, of course, will not be undermined under the influence of these mistakes.”

 

The head of the Prisons Organization does not mention the violation of the dignity and the human rights of the prisoners or any efforts to compensate for it, the fact which has provoked the reaction of social media users.

 

In the past few days, a group called “Adalat-e Ali (Ali’s Justice)” announced the hacking of the prison’s surveillance cameras by leaking footages from inside Evin Prison.

 

The videos, reveal the beating and torture of prisoners by prison agents..
