Nine months in prison for the Christian convert, Reza Zaimi

Breathing in Confinement: The Court of Appeals in Alborz Province reduced the sentence of Reza Zaimi a Christian convert to 9 months imprisonment as well as a two-year ban from leaving the country. In late January this year, Reza Zaimi had been sentenced by Karaj Revolutionary Court to one and half year in prison and a two-year ban from leaving the country.

According to Article 18, the Christian convert, Reza Zaimi, 40, from Karaj, was sentenced by the Alborz Court of Appeals to nine months in prison and a two-year ban from leaving the country.

Previously on January 25, 2021, in Branch 4 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj, presided over by Judge Shabani, Mr.  Zaimi had been sentenced to one year and six months in prison and 2-year ban from leaving the country for propaganda against the regime through promoting evangelical Christianity.

Reza Zaimi was arrested by plainclothes forces near his home in Karaj on November 27, 2020, and four hours later, was transferred from an unknown location to the IRGC intelligence detention center.

According to the report, during his detention, Mr. Zaimi was denied the right to make any phone calls for eight days. His home also was searched by security forces. Ten days later, he was transferred from the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center to Ghezel Hesar Penitentiary by the order of the Judge of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Karaj. He was finally released after a week on bail of 60 million Tomans.
