Security guard at Beheshti University of Medical Sciences beat a journalist

Breathing in Confinement: On , May 18, 2021, Faezeh Momeni, who works as an urban field  journalist for Event 24 and Sobheno institutes, went to Beheshti University of Medical Sciences where Covid-19 vaccination was being done. She however, after preparing the report, was pressurized by the university security office to delete the interview files and as she refused to do so, one of the security agents beat her and broke her finger.

 

Reporting this news on her personal Twitter page, Faezeh Momeni announced that she has undergone surgery for her broken finger.

 

The  illegal act of beating Ms. Momeni by the university guards has taken place even though, this journalist had conducted the interviews after presenting her press ID card and following taking the required permissions.

 

The Association of Iranian Journalists in Tehran demanded an apology for beating Ms. Faezeh Momeni.

 

The association describing both asking Ms. Momeni to submit her belongings as well as beating her by a security guard which led her finger to be broken as illegal, called on the officials of “Shahid Beheshti” University of Medical Sciences to act against the perpetrator of the beating.

 

 

 

The Tehran Journalists’ Union called on the judiciary to address the issue fairly, and wrote in part: “The action of this security guard is not just an attack on a journalist, but also an attack on the privacy of journalism and media activities in the country.”
