Breathing in Confinement: Mohsen Naafri, a prisoner in Isfahan Prison who has been sentenced to death for murder, insisted on his innocence and called on the head of the judiciary to investigate his case.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mohsen Nafari, a prisoner on death row, asked the head of the judiciary to investigate his case in order to save him from execution and to prove his innocence.

In a video obtained by “Breathing in Confinement”, the 50-year-old prisoner, the father of 10 and 13-year-old children from Talkhooncheh, in Isfahan, insisting on his innocence, asked the head of the judiciary to reconsider his case.

“The main killer has been found, but the Supreme Court is not investigating the case,” said Mohsen, who was sentenced to death only on the basis of the “knowledge” of one of the judges of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan, without any evidence.

Mr. Nafari said that he had been innocently detained for three years because of a murder that took place seven years ago, and that he had lost his mother and wife during his detention, and that “his children were living with his sister without a guardian.”

It should be noted that death sentences in Iran are issued without a fair trial based on forced confessions, and in cases where a prisoner does not confess, the judge issues the death sentence by holding an oath (qassameh) ceremony.

The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, condemning the issuance and execution of death sentences, calls on all international human rights organizations, especially the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, to investigate the case of Mohsen Nafari as well as other prisoners who have been sentenced to death regardless of the reason.
