Breathing in Confinement: Isfahan Rahvar Police Chief announced that all the roads leading to Khajoo Bridge and Zayandehrud River would be blocked on Friday, December 3, 2021. The Isfahan prosecutor also announced that any gathering in Isfahan was prohibited.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, following the release of a call for holding a protest rally in support of the detainees and those injured in last week’s protests in Isfahan, the Rahvar Police Chief Mohammad Reza Mohammadi announced that from 5:00 AM on Friday, December 3, traffic and even stopping would be prohibited along the Zayandehrud River as well as the roads leading to Khajoo Bridge. He also said that under no circumstances would motorcyclists be allowed to travel.
The Isfahan prosecutor also announced that any gathering in Isfahan would be prohibited. He threatened the participants of any gathering.
Also on December 2, Musa Ghazanfarabadi, head of the parliament’s Judiciary and Legal Commission, in support of direct firing on protesters in Isfahan, said: “When a protester wants to take action that causes damage to the country, clashes are possible.” He continued: “In addition to security forces, the person or persons who witness the risks or damages are occurring or have occurred, can take action, and this is in accordance with both Sharia and the law.
On November 26, 2021, the people and farmers of Isfahan, in response to a call for supporting farmers’ water rights as well as revitalizing the Zayandehrud River, staged a protest rally in the dry bed of the River, which was violently suppressed by security forces.
About 40 protesters were shot in the eye by birdshot guns and hospitalized.
According to official sources, about 67 people have been arrested under the name of “Leader”, without mentioning their identities. These sources did not disclose the identities or whereabouts of the detainees. But unofficial sources put the number of detainees at between 300 and 350.
According to an informed source, those who were hospitalized due to birdshot wounds were detained by security forces and taken to an unknown location.
So far, official sources have not released the actual number or identities of the detainees. This has raised serious concerns about detainees, including their enforced disappearance or torture in order to obtain forced confessions.
