“Breathing in Confinement”, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, reported that on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at least 9 protest gatherings took place in various cities across the country. According to the statistics centre of the “Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran,” Social Security retirees in Shush, Ahvaz, Kermanshah, and Tehran held protests against the poor living conditions, poverty, inflation, and high costs. They demanded improvements in pensions, welfare services, and free healthcare. Some of the slogans included: “We won’t live under oppression, we will sacrifice our lives for freedom / Shame on this life, shame on this life / A military agent has possessed a specialist’s position/ We can only claim our rights on the streets / Sharifeh Mohammadi must be freed / We support the hardworking nurse / Esmail Gerami must be freed.”

Steel industry retirees in Tehran and Isfahan also protested the poor living conditions and demanded reforms, pension equalization, and addressing their other demands. Some of their slogans included: “The Minister of Labor must come to the streets / Promises were great, but they were all false.” The retirees then gathered in the Social Security Hall, and during their protests, clashed with a deputy of the Ministry of Labor named Asgariyan, which led to him being beaten. The retirees chanted: “Fraudster, fraudster.”

Workers from the Shams Anzali Industrial Complex gathered in front of the governor’s office to protest the management’s decision for asking workers to pledge not to participate in labor protests.

Families of prisoners in Iranshahr protested in front of the visiting room over a directive requiring cash payments for visitations.

Housing applicants gathered in front of the Housing Foundation in Shahr-e Kord, protesting the delay in the delivery of their housing units, the shutdown of the project, and high prices.
