After 11 years in jail, Hassan Sishakhti was released from Evin Prison

Breathing in Confinement – Late last week, after being kept in jail for 11 years, the political prisoner Hassan Sishakhti was released from prison. He had been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in 2010. His sentence, however, was eventually reduced to life in prison.

According to the Defenders of Human Rights Center, late last week, after serving 11 years in prison, the political prisoner Hassan Sishakhti was released from Evin Prison.

It is noteworthy that Hassan was arrested by the IRGC Intelligence Organization in August 2008. He was kept for 18 months under interrogation in wards 2-A and 240 at  Evin Prison. Finally, in 2010, he was sentenced to death by the Islamic Revolutionary Court- Branch 15,  on charges of “Moharebeh (war against God)”, “corruption on earth” and “enmity against the system”. He was also sentenced to eight and a half years in prison on charges of ” gathering and colluding, insulting the leader of the Islamic Republic and the President, and insulting Islamic sanctities “. Eventually, in 2011, Hassan Sishakhti’s death sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.
