Alireza Rasooli Ended His Hunger Strike after 50 Days

Breathing in Confinement – Alireza Rasooli, political prisoner at Central Prison of Uremia, ended his hunger strike after 50 days.
According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, the political prisoner went on hunger strike since 9th November and after officials agreed with his demand regarding his medical treatment, he ended his hunger strike on 28th December.
An informed source, who requested anonymity, in this regard told “Breathing in Confinement’s” reporter: “On 28th December in the presence of Alireza Rasooli’s family members, representatives of the Persecutor in the prison promised that within the next 15 days they will solve his problem.”
It is told that the authorities have promised that they will let him to go on medical leave or they will pay a part of costs of his medical treatment.
Alireza Rasooli suffers from severe osteoporosis and needs a joint replacement surgery. Nevertheless the prison authorities have yet denied providing appropriate medical care or send him to medical leave.
According to the relatives of this political prisoner, prison authorities in respond told him as he was suffering from the disease before detention, so they cannot pay for his treatment and also, due to his “political charges” they cannot let him go on medical leave.
Mr. Rasooli was arrested in February 2012 in Mahabad and was sentenced to 3 and a half years imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court, branch 1 in Mahabad.
He was arrested by the security forces after the gathering in front of the Governor office in Mahabad following fire incident in a primary school in Shinabad.
