Alireza Rasooli on Day 48 of Hunger Strike

Breathing in Confinement – Alireza Rasooli, political prisoner in Central Prison of Uremia, has been on hunger strike for 48 days, so far.

According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, Alireza Rasooli, went on hunger strike since 9th November 2014 to protest against the lack of treatment for his illness and remains in serious condition.

In this regard, one of his close relatives told “Breathing in Confinement’s” reporter, “At the midnight of December 24th, Alireza Rasooli vomited blood and was taken immediately to prison clinic by his inmates. Prison doctors confirmed that he was suffering from stomach bleeding, but he refused to get IV fluid and went back to ward 12.”

Alireza Rasooli suffers from severe osteoporosis and prison authorities deny providing appropriate medical care or refuse to give him medical leave permission.

This political prisoner was arrested in March 2012 in Mahabad and by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad city was sentenced to 3 and a half years imprisonment.

The Revolutionary Court in Mahabad city, charged him with membership in “PJAK”, while, according to his relatives, he was arrested after the gathering in front of the Governor office in Mahabad  which was against the authorities indifference regarding the students’ condition after burning incident in Shinabad school.

Mr. Rasooli was exiled to the Uremia prison in March 2013 and has been held in ward 12 since then.
