Breathing in Confinement: At noon on August 26, 2021, without a prior notice, Ali Ahmadi, a Baha’i citizen living in Ghaemshahr, was arrested and transferred to the prison to serve his one-year prison sentence.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, without a prior notice, Ali Ahmadi, a Baha’i resident of Ghaemshahr, was arrested on August 26, 2021, and transferred to Ghaemshahr Prison to serve his one-year sentence.

 

He suffers from acute heart disease as well as diabetes, and given the widespread outbreak of delta variant of coronavirus, being transferred to prison, endangers his life.

 

Ali Ahmadi was arrested by security forces at his home on November 20, 2018 and transferred to Kachuei Detention Center in Sari. While arresting him, agents called him “najis” (ritually unclean). On January 2, 2019, after spending 43 days in detention, this Baha’i citizen was released from prison, on 150 million Tomans bail, awaiting the court’s decision.

 

“He was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Ghaemshahr, on charges of” propaganda against the regime as well as forming a Baha’i organization. ”

 

With his request for retrial, the Supreme Court overturned his sentence of 11 years in prison, and referred the case to Branch 28 of the Court of Appeals in Mazandaran Province. The branch acquitted Ali Ahmadi of “running a Baha’i organization” and sentenced him to one year in prison for “propaganda against the regime.”
