Political Prisoners in Ahvaz Prison Ended their Hanger Strike after 17 Days

Breathing in Confinement – 59 political prisoners in Karoun prison, in Ahvaz, ended their hunger strike after 17 days when officials agreed with some of their demands.
According to the report of “Breathing in Confinement”, 59 political prisoners in ward 8 at Karoun prison in Ahvaz went on hunger strike on 21st December 2014, demanding improvement in prison conditions and addressing the situation of ill prisoners. After 17 days, on 6th January they ended their hunger strike.
An informed source, who asked for anonymity, in a conversation regarding this group of prisoners’ hunger strike told “Breathing in Confinement’s” reporter: “On 6th January, after a negotiation between prison officials and the prisoners on hunger strike, prison authorities agreed to increase the number of telephone booth from 2 to 6 for the ward 8, prisoners access to prison’s library, and increase the time of their family visits, so that prisoners ended their hunger strike.”
That is to say, political prisoners in Karoun prison in Ahvaz were allowed to have phone call only 3 times a week for 3 minutes, and once a week, cabin visit with their family members.
It has been told, the time of prisoners’ visit was very short and the prison guards were conducted intensive supervised visitation.
