Breathing in Confinement: To serve her sentence, Azam Shirafkan, one of the detainees of the November 2019 uprisings, who had previously been sentenced to 6 years in prison, was arrested and transferred to Kachuei Prison in Karaj.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Azam Shirafkan, one of the detainees of the November 2019 protests, who had been sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison, was arrested on August 8, 2021 and transferred to Kachoui Prison in Karaj to serve her sentence.
The civil activist Azam Shirafkan had been arrested on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, during the nationwide uprisings. Concurrently with her arrest, security forces searched her home and confiscated some of her personal belongings, including her laptop. She was held for 6 months in an undetermined condition in Kachuei prison in Karaj. Azam Shirafkan was then released temporarily from Kachoui prison in Karaj on a bail of 200 million Tomans, awaiting the court’s decision.
She was later sentenced by the Revolutionary Court in Karaj to five years in prison on charge of “gathering and colluding to incite people to disrupt the national security” as well as one year and six months in prison on charge of “propaganda activities against the regime.”
Eventually, as the Revolutionary Court of Appeals upheld the initial verdict, she was arrested on August 8, 2021, and transferred to Kachuei Prison in Karaj, to serve her sentence,.
