To serve her sentence, Shohreh Hosseini was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison

Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, January 29, 2022, after appearing in the Sentence Enforcement Unit of the Evin Court, Shohreh Hosseini, a translator and social activist, was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence. She had previously been sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. Her sentence was later reduced to three years and three months in prison by the Court of Appeals. And according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, a maximum of 2 years and 7 months in prison is applicable to her.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, after appearing in Evin’s Sentence Enforcement Unit, Shohreh Hosseini, a translator and social activist, was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence.

Ms. Hosseini had previously been summoned to Branch 1 of the Evin Court, headed by Judge Amir Hossein Tarian. Shohreh Hosseini had been arrested in October 2020, to be released on bail a few days later. However, she was again summoned to the Evin Interrogation Branch, where she was notified that the amount of her bail had been increased. So, she was arrested and interrogated again and was released on bail after 50 days, awaiting the court’s decision.

Shohreh Hosseini was tried on January 18, 2021, in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari. The court sentenced her to four years and two months in prison on charges of “conspiracy to disrupt the national security,” “membership in anti-regime groups” and “propaganda against the regime.” Her sentence was eventually reduced to 3 years and 3 months in prison, of which according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the maximum sentence of 2 years and 7 months on the charge of “gathering and colluding” is applicable.
