Breathing in Confinement: On May 1, 2021, on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day, various groups of people, including workers and retirees, gathered in different cities such as Tehran, Karaj, Shush, Mashhad, Isfahan, Tabriz, Arak, Rasht, Khorramabad, Marivan etc.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, there was a heavy presence of police and security forces in front of the Ministry of Labor in Tehran, so that people were not allowed to held a gathering and dozens of them were arrested.

According to an eyewitness, Behboodi Street towards Khosh in Tehran was occupied by security forces in a way that no gathering was possible. Some of the demonstrators transferred the rally to the Azadi terminal, where they chanted slogans such as “The imprisoned worker must be released, Ismail Gerami must be released, down with oppressor, and so on.”

Workers and retirees also rallied in some other cities such as Tabriz, Arak, Mashhad, Shush, etc.

In addition, during a rally in Sanandaj, Seith Amani, a board member of the Free Union of Iranian Workers (FUIW) was arrested in the industrial town No. 2 of Sanandaj, while being beaten by security forces.
