Breathing in Confinement: Tooraj Amini, a writer and a Baha’i researcher, was released from Karaj Central Prison on Wednesday, July 28, after completing his prison sentence. He had previously been sentenced to one year in prison as well as two years in exile by the Revolutionary Court in Karaj. His sentence was later reduced by the Court of Appeals to six months in prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, the writer and Baha’i researcher, Turaj Amini was released from Karaj Central Prison after serving his prison sentence. He had been arrested on January 29, 2021, after appearing in the Sentence Enforcement Unit of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Karaj to be transferred to Karaj Central Prison.
The history researcher, Tooraj Amini was tried by the Revolutionary Court in Karaj where citing his books and articles written in history, he was charged with “propaganda activities against the regime, ” for which he was sentenced to one year in prison as well as two years in exile. His sentence was later reduced to 6 months in prison in the Court of Appeals of Alborz Province.
Security forces had previously searched Mr. Amini’s home on August 5, 2019, when they confiscated his personal belongings, including books, notes, and his laptop.
